Modernization work is underway at the Newark Liberty International Airport Train Station to improve passenger facilities. Passengers should be aware of the following temporary impacts while work is completed:
Fare Gate Modernization
From 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. on the nights of Thursday, Oct. 22, and Friday, Oct. 23, NJ TRANSIT will replace fare gates at the Newark Liberty International Airport Train Station. The new gates are expected to remain out of service through approximately Friday, Oct. 30, while required testing and inspections are completed.
Passengers should purchase NJ TRANSIT and Amtrak rail tickets ahead of time when possible. Please allow additional time and follow directions from on-site personnel, who will be available daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. to assist with fare processing and manage passenger flow.
Escalator Modernization – Tracks 4 & 5
The escalator down to Tracks 4 & 5 will remain out of service through the end of November 2026. Elevators and the escalator up from Tracks 4 & 5 will remain available to passengers arriving via NJ TRANSIT and Amtrak rail.
Passengers traveling to Tracks 4 & 5 should follow temporary directional signage for alternate access to the platforms and allow additional time to reach their train.
Will the AirTrain Partial Service Outages be in effect during this modernization work?
Yes, this work is only within the Newark Airport Train Station and is unrelated to AirTrain service.
AirTrain Newark is not serving the Newark Airport Train Station Monday through Friday, from 5:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., due to construction of the new AirTrain Newark.
During these hours, customers arriving at the Newark Airport Train Station should take a free shuttle bus directly to their airport terminal. Customers traveling from the airport to the Newark Airport Train Station should take the AirTrain to P4 Station and transfer to a free shuttle bus.
Please budget an additional 10-15 minutes to reach your terminal during this time. Service between Terminals A, B and C, Rental Cars, P3 Station, and P4 Daily Parking will not be affected. The AirTrain operates normally on weekends and outside of these hours.
