Connecting flights at another airport
There may be times when your trip has you arriving at a New York or New Jersey airport and departing for your next flight from another. You may arrive in New Jersey at EWR and your next departing flight leaves from a New York airport. For example, you might fly into EWR from Orlando and then depart from JFK on an international flight.
If this applies to you:
- Make sure to check your itinerary carefully when booking.
- Leave plenty of time to travel between airports — especially during rush hour or holidays.
You will need to:
- Collect your checked bags at your arrival airport.
- Travel to the next airport (by public transit, taxi, or with a rideshare).
- Check in and check your bags with your departing airline.
- Go through TSA security again.
Transportation options when traveling between airports
Public transportation
For traveling between EWR and JFK:
- Take the EWR AirTrain to Newark Airport Train Station, then transfer to NJ Transit to Penn Station and from there transfer to LIRR to Jamaica Station and hop on the JFK AirTrain to your terminal
Alternatively:
- Take the EWR AirTrain to Newark Airport Train Station, then transfer to NJ Transit to Penn Station and from there transfer to the or subway to Jamaica or Howard Beach station and hop on the JFK AirTrain
- Take the Newark Airport Express Bus to Grand Central or Port Authority Bus Terminal, hop on the LIRR to Jamaica Station and take the JFK AirTrain to your destination
For traveling between EWR and LGA:
- Take the Newark Airport Express Bus to the Port Authority Bus Terminal, then transfer to the subway on the , or train to Jackson Heights and from there board the free Q70+ to LGA (free, 10-minute ride)
- Take the EWR AirTrain to the Newark Airport train station, transfer to Penn Station by taking NJ Transit and from there hop on the LIRR for one stop to Woodside and connect to the Link Q70 bus to LGA (free, 10-minute ride)
