AirTrain is the most efficient way to get around Newark Liberty International Airport - operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. AirTrain connects passengers to airline terminals, rental car facilities, hotel shuttles and central parking lots.
5:00AM to 11:00PM: Arrives and departs every 3-5 minutes daily.
11:00PM to 5:00AM: Arrives and departs every 15 minutes (approx.) daily. Please note that during these hours, AirTrain runs as a shuttle service which may require train transfers to reach your final destination.

The Newark Liberty International Airport Train Station can be reached via NJ TRANSIT or Amtrak rail service from New York Penn Station or Newark Penn Station.
Approximate travel times to and from these destinations are below.
New York Penn Station to/from EWR: 30 minutes (approx.)
Newark Penn Station to/from EWR: 5 minutes (approx.)
After arriving at EWR, passengers should budget extra time to transfer to the AirTrain platform, wait for the AirTrain to arrive, and travel on the AirTrain based on the frequency of service listed in the prior section.
Once on board, passengers can expect an additional 7 to 20 minutes for traveling between terminals. More information on this last segment of the journey can be found in the next section.

Travel times to/from EWR vary. Listed below are approximate times:
6:00AM to 9:00PM: On weekdays, at least six NJ TRANSIT trains arrive every hour at the Newark Liberty International Airport Train Station.
9:00PM to midnight: On weekdays, four NJ TRANSIT trains arrive every hour at the Newark Liberty International Airport Train Station.

Amtrak service on the Northeast Corridor runs approximately every hour between the Newark Liberty International Airport Train Station, New York City and Philadelphia.
Amtrak also runs hourly service to New York City with some trains continuing to or originating from Boston, Massachusetts, providing service to Stamford and New Haven, Connecticut and intermediate points.

PATH service runs frequently during most hours every day, but run at a reduced frequency during certain hours of the day.
Passengers can connect with PATH via NJ TRANSIT from the Newark Liberty International Airport Train Station to Newark Penn Station.
The AirTrain is free within the airport – between airline terminals, parking lots, hotel shuttles and rental car facilities.
Without a NJ TRANSIT or Amtrak ticket, the cost to access AirTrain is $8.50 when entering and exiting Newark Liberty International Airport Train Station. More information can be found in the next section.
If you take PATH, New York City Transit Subways, or the Long Island Rail Road, you will pay a separate fare for those services. Visit their websites for more information.
When you buy a NJ TRANSIT or Amtrak ticket to/from Newark Liberty International Airport Train Station, that one ticket includes the AirTrain Newark portion, which is $8.50. The AirTrain access fee is not charged for children (11 and under) or for customers using monthly passes with the airport as the origin or destination.
You must use your ticket twice regardless of which direction you’re traveling. You’ll need to show the ticket to the conductor on the NJ TRANSIT or Amtrak train, and you’ll need the ticket to pass through the fare line at Newark Liberty International Airport (RailLink) Station. Be sure to take the ticket with you.
Contact PATH, NJ TRANSIT or Amtrak for more information on fares, discounted monthly tickets, ten-trip tickets and other special fares. All fares are subject to change.
If you already have a NJ TRANSIT or Amtrak ticket, including a commuter weekly or monthly ticket to a destination past the Newark Liberty International Airport Station, you may use it to get to or from the Airport Train Station. However, you will also need to purchase a separate $8.50 NJ TRANSIT ticket at the Airport Train Station from ticket machines located within the station.
All AirTrain trains and stations are ADA compliant, with every station designed to ensure the convenient boarding of riders with mobility challenges. There are two designated wheelchair locations on each vehicle.

To make travel safe, clean and comfortable for everyone, there are some rules and policies to keep in mind when riding the AirTrain.
Eating, smoking, and drinking are not permitted at any time, anywhere in the AirTrain system.
You are welcome to bring the following:
Smarte Cartes can be picked up and dropped off at the airline terminals, however they will not be allowed through the fare gates at Newark AirTrain Newark stations. You may take Smarte Cartes into the parking lots.
