How to secure a rental
Reserving a rental car
You can reserve a rental car from one of the on-site rental car companies above in advance of your trip by calling the phone numbers listed or online.
Picking up your rental car
Check-in online once you have arrived or speak with an agent at the rental car counters.
To pick up your rental, take the AirTrain to Terminal A AirTrain Station and walk the covered corridor to the rental car center. You may also get dropped off at the Station in the designated rideshare zone.
Returning your rental car
If you are returning your rental car, enter in your GPS “Terminal A Parking Newark opens in a new tab” to find the rental car center. Remember to refuel your car before returning it. There are gas stations opens in a new tab conveniently located within two miles of the airport for your refueling needs.
Once you drop off your rental, take the AirTrain and ride it to your designated terminal to catch your flight.
Paying for tolls when using a rental car
All Port Authority crossings in New Jersey have switched to cashless tolling, which means you will be billed electronically. However, some tolls not included in these crossings can still be paid with cash. Before leaving your rental car, check with your rental car company to understand their toll payment policy.
Some companies provide an E‑ZPass® transponder. If one is included, be sure you know how it works and what fees or charges may apply, as the rental company may also add an administrative fee for toll usage.
If your rental car company does not provide a transponder, or if you do not want to use a rental car company tag, you have two options:
- “Pay by plate” and the rental company will bill you later
- Pay the toll using your own E-ZPass transponder
If you decide to use your own transponder, do not add the rental car license plate to your E-Z Pass account.
Accessible rental cars
Vehicles with hand controls are available from some partner car rental companies. For more information or for shuttle service information to or from your terminal, contact the rental company directly.
Navigate EWR with the AirTrain
The AirTrain connects passengers to terminals, central parking, on-airport bus, hotel shuttles, the rental car center, and public transportation.
